Thor 2 hammered the box office raking in a whopping $86.1 leaving all other contenders in the dust. According to Screencrush.com, worldwide the movie has grossed $327 million and is speculated to even reach $1 billion globally…which has become somewhat normal for Marvel Studios.
At the end of Thor: The Dark World, viewers got a glimpse of a teaser for Guardians of the Galaxy but fans of the hammer-wielding superhero would really like to know what is in store for them with Thor 3.
Many Marvel Studios fans already know that the studio operates in phases. According to Screen Crush, it is only logical to assume that Thor 3 would be coming during Phase 3. This is after we get The Avengers: Age of Ultron directed by Joss Whedon that hits theatres in 2015.
Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth will be reunited with the other Avengers to take on Ultron who will be played by James Spader. After this, Marvel intends to finish the year with Ant Man on July 31st which will be directed by Edgar Wright. The rest is speculation.
According to Screen Crush, Marvel President Kevin Fiege has hinted that the studio has already mapped out what they intend to do until the year 2021 with the only concrete release dates revealed being May 6th, 2016 and May 5th, 2017. If one of them is Doctor Strange and the other release Captain America 3 or Thor 3, it would mean that the next time we see the guardian of Asgard would be 4 years from now.
SPOILER ALERT – Since those who watched Thor: The Dark World know that Loki played by Tom Hiddelston, faked his own death and is now “King” of Asgard, it is safe to assume that he may very well be the villain in Thor 3.
For those who are wondering what became of Odin, according to Screen Crush, Anthony Hopkins who played the role stated during an interview that he dies.
As for whether or not it is possible to see another villain going against Thor, it is very possible as there are decades of comic-book antagonists that would be thrilling on the big screen. Those who have read a multitude of Thor books have speculated that Ragnarok is a very possible future plotline.
